Bello Family Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery in Napa Valley producing extraordinary wines from an estate vineyard.  The dream was set into motion when Michael Bello purchased a piece of prime real estate in Napa Valley’s Rutherford Bench district.

The story of Bello Family Vineyards and their racehorse - Megahertz.

When Michael Bello found Megahertz in Great Britain, he knew that bringing her back to the U.S. would be taking a chance.

Though history would prove it to be a wise decision, introducing Megahertz to the California stable of trainer Bobby Frankel seemed like a calculated risk.  After she won her initial race at Santa Anita in 2002, however, it was clear a new legend was born.  Megahertz earned more than $2 million over the course of her racing career, winning 14 races, taking second place six times and third place five times.

Together with jockey Alex Solis, the young filly racehorse had a trademark style that electrified the racing world.  Patiently waiting and looking for an opening, then coming from the back of the field to win in the homestretch, they proved it’s never a good idea to underestimate the heart of a champion.

“I just love to watch her run,” said Michael Bello, when asked why he had continued racing her past a time in her life when others may have turned her into a broodmare.  “We just had to race her this year!  She’s really amazing to watch,” he added, and it is clear by the success she achieved that the racing world applauded his decision.

It is this competitive spirit, passion and drive that inspired the wine that shares her name.  Now retired, the Megahertz legacy lives on in a Cabernet Sauvignon made by Bello Family Vineyards.
